Himno Internacional (International Anthem)
Video documentation of performance
”Himno Internacional (International Anthem)” is a sound artwork comprised of a collage of fragments of all the national anthems of the world, arranged in English alphabetical order. In the work, the utopian idea of a composition that unites citizens is deconstructed through a process of less visible chauvinism. Instead of using geography, divisions of nation-states, symbols such as flags and pictures of football teams, this chauvinism happens to be within the diversity of languages, preventing a presumed unification. In the edited composition, the sound transcends linguistic fragmentation and allows universal international access. In 2017, ”Himno Internacional (International Anthem)” was performed by the National Navy orchestra in Montevideo. In the video documentation, the impossibility of performing a perfect score is made visible, underlining the fact that global unity needs more than harmony.
