Abul Mogard

Kraftcentralen

Abul Mogard is the alter ego of Italian musician Guido Zen, known for his evocative albums and immersive live performances. Based in Rome, he has appeared at prestigious festivals and venues all over the world. Recent releases include Impossibly Distant, Impossibly Close with Rafael Anton Irisarri and In uno spazio immenso with Grand River, alongside collaborations with Anna Von Hausswolff, KMRU and CoH.

At Norbergfestival Abul Mogard will present sounds from his album, Quiet Pieces, released on his imprint Soft Echoes. While sifting through archived material left idle from earlier projects, a chance encounter with a late uncle’s trove of beloved 78rpm classical and opera records prompted the reworking and completion of what would eventually become the album. Spinning dusty records at 33 and 45rpm, Abul Mogard recombined their enduring spectres with unfinished sketches from his archive. The resulting soundscape blurs distinctions between his memories and those of another, exquisitely short-circuiting the senses with its waking, dream-like lucidity.

Presenting Abul Mogard’s sounds in Mimerlaven promises to shake the foundations of the abandoned mine and those all of us inside it to toy with our collective sense of reality.

Presented with support from the Italian Cultural Institute of Stockholm.
