Romance Relic

Romance Relic is the solo sonic alias of Helsinki-based artist Jussi Hertz. Their musical work takes influences from varied fields ranging from experimental electronic, modern classical music and ambient genre tropes. Hertz works with various mediums, ranging from field recordings and re-appropriated and sampled sound excerpts to synthesized melodic passages and vocal verses. Within and throughout, they explore the intersections of emotional temporality and musical tropes’ relation to sensibility and pop-inclined romanticism.

In their practice, Romance Relic aims to stretch the boundaries of fragmentary storytelling, and its narrative capabilities and dispositions. Having releases via Janushoved, Eastern Nurseries, Katharsis and DISPLAY, each of their pieces of music reflect on different subject matters ranging from site-specific memory to instrumental mediation of emotion and temporality. Additionally, Hertz is the co-founder and artistic curator of contemporary art platform World Canvas.

Romance Relic is performing in Mimerlaven as part of the showcase of World Canvas, a Helsinki-label and cross-disciplinary platform for unconfined expressions of emotion. World Canvas strives to provide a home for artists on the fringes and backlots of contemporary art. It is a blank surface, open to host audiovisual explorations, fictional fantasies and outcries of yearning.
