Amplify Sápmi

Kraftcentralen
iDJa & Eili Bråstad, Nagirčalmmiid and Viktor Bomstad

We are proud to continue our efforts to amplify Sámi experimental music and performance art in collaboration with Kulturporten i Porjus, a cultural organization located in Bårjås on the Swedish side of Sápmi. This year, we are inviting three exciting acts stretching from the subtle to the overt and extreme.

iDJa & Eili Bråstad will present their audiovisual project Gaskačázis, taking us on a meditative journey across northern landscapes of organic and technological expression. The project invites reflection on the great challenges that nature in Sápmi and other indigenous areas is facing due to human intervention that leave irreversible transformations to the landscape and its eco systems.

Nagirčalmmiid is a band that exists somewhere between hardcore, sludge and screamo and will play nothing less, expressing themselves in their first language and dialect. Expect a brutal self-examination projected through a desperate soundscape, inviting you to struggle, both with oneself and others.

Viktor Bomstad will present an improvised set blending distorted guitars, rumbling synths and fragmentary joik. Pushing the boundaries of how joik can sound in new contexts and sonic landscapes, his music is gritty, slow-churning and trance-like, reaching for the sensation of being on a collective intergalactic journey.

Presented with support from the Sámi Parliament in Norway, Arts Council Norway,  Nordland County Council, Sámiráđđi, Kulturrådet, Sámediggi, and in collaboration with Kulturporten i Porjus.
